The first film that I attended was on thursday morning with my gym class from University of North Carolina at Wilmington. This semester I took salsa dancing and one of the ladies from cucalorus had a girl who had a meditation film and wanted people to try it out so they asked our class to come and participate. The film consisted of different people telling us breathing techniques to do while laying down on our back and trying to meditate. At first I was thinking to myself that we came to watch the film and that was it to give the girl who made it feedback based off the meditation we do in our class, but then when she said we were going to participate in it, i was confused but excited on how it was going to work. We started by watching it once like we would a regular film to give her responses on what we thought was good and bad. Next we then went and did the exercises through the film of what it told us to do. After that we got to do a question and answer session with the person who made it. For me it was really cool because I am the only one in our class who is a film major so I had more questions then everybody else and was able to get them all answered. Something I thought was really cool was that I didn't just feel like I was at a film festival because we were actually incorporated into it including our teacher. If I could do it all over again I most definitely would because I loved it that much.
The second film that I saw was growing girl on friday night. This film started out as a weird power point presentation about snakes with different colored text, font, word colors, and what looked to be like clip art that dissolved and faded out. The power point was about a woman regretting her inaction for sexual male misconduct. It was cool learning why she chose to do this in a power point presentation form instead. Her reasoning was that her family loved to go to the beach every summer and that she did not really like the beach so when her family would go down to the beach, she would stay upstairs and make animation power points on her dads computer. What I thought was cool was the fact that this was made in a power point. I always thought that it had to be made one way and one way only. It really opened my eyes to be me more open minded of what else can be done in the film industry.
